About us

Casa de la Misericordia y de Todas las Naciones is a project by BORDERLINKS AC that aims to provide a safe and dignified space for single women, women with children and adolescents, and entire families seeking asylum.

We have created a self-taught community for and by people in vulnerable circumstances, where they can explore and learn to use their skills in a warm, safe, and human rights-oriented space. As it is managed by the people themselves, they make this shelter their home.

Our mission

Our mission is to temporarily shelter women and families experiencing vulnerable circumstances in a safe, hospitable, and supportive space while on their way to their final destination.

Our vision

Our vision is to create a welcoming and hopeful space, rebuilding each person's dignity by nurturing their roots and allowing them to flourish in the next chapter of their life.

At the moment

Casa de la Misericordia y de Todas las Naciones (House of Mercy and All Nations) is a shelter for migrant women, children, and families in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. CMTN was established on March 21, 2020, by Alma Angelica “Lika” Macías Mejía, director and founder of the shelter, and Cruzando Fronteras, Episcopal Church Diocese of Phoenix, Grand Canyon Lutheran Church, and United Churches of Christ UCC.

Although there had always been a large number of people in vulnerable circumstances in the region, Lika noticed a significant increase in the number of people moving from Central and South America.

Nogales had no predetermined place to help the most vulnerable population: women and children, who were wandering the streets without a place to sleep. CMTN took the initiative and became the only shelter that serves them as a priority.
